RESEARCH FOCUS

 My field of research is Plant Taxonomy & Systematics focusing mainly on the West African flora. My studies encompass taxonomy, systematics, chemosystematics, ethnobotanical surveys as well as Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) on the Vegetation. I have worked extensively on the taxonomic revision of the family Polygonaceae and Loranthaceae in West Tropical Africa with a view to determining the different taxa present within the subcontinent, the taxonomic delimitation, and variation within each taxon and between taxa in the family. I have conducted research in many other plant taxonomic groups which contain medicinally important species such as in Myrtaceae, Dialium (Caesalpinioideae), Synsepalum (Sapotaceae), Alchornea(Euphorbiaceae), Ixora (Rubiaceae), Plumbago (Plumbaginaceae), Brachystegia,Hyptis (Labiatae), Cola (Sterculiaceae), Albizia (Mimosaceae), RauvolfiaAndrographis(Acanthaceae), Khaya (Meliaceae)etc. I am involved in ethnobotanical survey of plants and in many Environmental Impact Assessment studies especially on the vegetation in many parts of the country particularly in the Niger Delta region. I am currently involved in the Systematic and Evolutionary Studies in the families Bignoniaceae and Tiliaceae and in the genera Cola and Phyllanthus.(Apocynaceae),
