Completed:
(i) Hydrochemical and Hydro-geophysical assessment of shallow coastal aquifers around Lagos area and parts of basement terrains in southwestern Nigeria.
(ii) The assessment and evaluation of groundwater potential of basement aquifers in some parts of south western Nigeria.
(iii) Geochemical evaluation of the Lagos lagoon sediments.
(iv) Evaluation of the impact of industrialization on the quality of environmental media in Nigeria.
(v) Assessment of the environmental and health impact of the exploitation and utilization of the geologic resources of Nigeria.
(b) In Progress:
(i) Detailed Investigation of Roles of Geology on Groundwater Chemistry in Nigeria: An assessment of the effects of mineralogy and geochemistry of weathered profiles on groundwater chemistry and character in Nigeria is currently ongoing. The study would eventually help to identify what needs to be done to harness such groundwater resources for domestic, agricultural and industrial usage sustainably. This study, so far had allowed for determination of the broad and specific role(s) of geology on the chemical composition of the groundwater in various aquifer systems (basement and sedimentary terrains).
(ii) Urban Geochemistry:
This involves detailed geochemical mapping of the spatial distribution of elemental constituents of environmental media such as rocks, soils, sediments, road dusts, particulate matter and vegetation in several Nigerian cities. This work had led to the generation of baseline geochemical maps for these urban centers. These maps would ultimately become a veritable tool for planning and development of mitigation procedures where contaminations and pollutions have been identified.
(iii) Appraisal of the Gem Minerals of Nigeria:
Geochemical study of the gem minerals and gem mineral bearing pegmatites in part of southwestern Nigeria is also being undertaken. This is by using cutting edge geochemical tools including isotope study to elucidate the evolution, character and chemistry of mineralizing fluids. All field activities have been concluded and detailed geochemical interpretation of data obtained is ongoing.
(c) Projects, Dissertations and Theses:
(i) An Integrated Geological approach to Groundwater Search in a typical Basement complex terrain: A case study of Oke-Agbe Akoko, south-western Nigeria (M.Sc. Project, University of Ibadan, 2000)
(ii) Geochemical Characterisation of the Lagos Lagoon Sediments (Ph.D. Thesis, University of Ibadan, 2006)
