Student's Association : Department of Zoology

BRIEF ON NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ZOOLOGY STUDENTS [NAZS]

The National Association of Zoology Students [NAZS] formerly Zoology Students’ Association [ZOOSA] was founded about five decades ago with clear cut objectives to promote unity and academic culture among the students in the Department, and Universities in the country where Zoology is studied as a course. Membership of the association is open to all students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The membership drive is facilitated by the conducive atmosphere, encouragement and mentoring received from the members of staff and the Department as a whole.

The association is administered by a 10-man executive team, led by a president and elected annually by the congress of the association. As a sign of mentoring, the association has four Advisers from the academic staff members of the Department namely: Dr. Adekunle A. Bakare, Dr. Olajumoke O. Morenikeji, Dr. Kehinde O.K. Popoola, and Dr. Adeola Ala. The Staff Advisers are always ready to offer good counsel and assist the association in implementing programmes.

The association has a press club, literary and debate society, different sports teams in track and field events, and indoor games, with laurels in the kitty from various competitions organised at the Faculty and University levels. The association strives to promote good social interactions, sportsmanship and regular sporting activities to enhance academic performance. Annually, programmes such as quiz competition, sports competition, excursions and industrial visits are organised by incumbent executive leadership across all levels. These aid good interactive and communication skills while fostering good relationship between students on the one hand and staff and students on the other. Similarly, orientation programmes are held for fresh students and a dinner party caps off a week long activity usually held in the second semester of each session, towards the twilight of the tenure of the incumbent leadership, tagged ‘Departmental Week’.

The current leadership is shown in the table below.
