CURRICULUM FOR B.Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMME IN MICROBIOLOGY
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
(a) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Requirement: Five ‘O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any other science subjects (Physics, Geography, Economics, etc.)
(b) Direct Entry Requirement
Advance Level (AL) Passes in Chemistry and Biology in addition to five ‘O’ Level credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
(c) Transfer Candidate
A candidate is accepted on transfer into the Department only at 200 level if she/he has satisfied the UTME entry requirements into the Department/Faculty and has not been withdrawn from the University.
COURSE REQUIREMENT
The programme is full-time, and culminates in the award of a Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc. Microbiology). Instructions shall be by courses (both physical and virtual) and students will be required to take a combination of Senate-approved courses. There shall be four levels of courses numbered 101 – 199, 201 – 299, 301 – 399 and 401 – 499. Course numbers shall be prefixed by three characters code (MCB) signifying the course areas e.g. MCB 301.
Course Registration
Students shall normally register for a prescribed minimum number of units in each academic session. After registration, students may add or delete courses provided this is done within the stipulated window.
Examination
All courses taught during each semester shall be examined at the end of that semester, and candidates will be credited with the number of course units assigned to the course which they passed. The duration of each paper shall be determined by the Department based on the unit of each course. A candidate is eligible to sit for an examination he or she has duly registered for and must have had a minimum of 75% attendance in the course.
